Mageia 3 beta 3 is finally out!

As we said in a previous blog post, Mageia 3 planning was modified to give us some more time – for one beta release more, and to enable us to hunt more bugs. We finally had to face quite a lot of them during the QA tests of beta 3 isos,  and it took more time than expected to fix it. We’ve been working really hard, and now we have beta 3 ready for you to start testing.

So! Here are the LiveCD ISOs for downloading; the ISOs using the classical installer should be released in a very short time, and we’ll post again as soon as that happens.

We need you more than ever – please, download, install and test, test, test.

More details about this release:

If you need some help with testing and bug reporting, please do contact us on IRC, on Freenode server, #mageia-qa or #mageia-dev channels.

Enjoy this new release!

    Still no funktioning like WUBI.
That makes it impossible to test. I’m not ruining my backup partion again and live-CD is sooooo 20′ century. Who build a computer today with diskdrive and optical reader?
Last time i tryed a live-CD i almoast fall asleep waiting for things to happen after a click.
Noone can evaluate a distro properly with live-CD or in Vmware

It’s time to take my absolute favourite distro to 2013 IMHO.
    Get something like WUBI. a.s.a.p

Does it work with Stem like Kubuntu does?

    If not. Why?

you can use an USB key…

Thanks, that was quick. Is the grub2 issue fixed. As per the errata it says that we need to add some online repository. Can that be enhanced to say what repository and also the urpmi.addmedia command for the same.

        Thanks,

      • Anakin says:

Yes and that is just as easy as you klick on a link for downloading the WUBI file and a click on that and you have the system installed.

It’s time to take my favourite distro to 2013.
Once upon a time Mandrake Linux was forked with the goal to be the moast user friendly distro of them all.
A goal that since a long time is buried and forgotten.

The new goal is “Let’s do it the way we allways done it” or “Nothing new to see here. Move along”

    Congrats.

When you release something why is it difficult to provide a link in the release announcement. If someone has to test beta3 they have to go searching for a link from where to download beta3. These are minor things, but they are very critical things..

      • Arun says:

Sorry for spamming. I pasted my reply at the wrong place.

  6. Filip says:

Any particular reason that there are no torrents?

  7. Otto Leipälä says:

I mean those live images, installed os can be booted easy way in uefi tuned on.

  16. Arun says:

Far better than beta2. Significant improvement in performance. 64 bit on boot up occupied 275MB which is great. Wireless also work seamlessly once dkms-wl is installed. Great work.

  17. Philippe says:

Nice work! I performed another upgrade from Mageia 2 to Mageia 3 last week and it completed succesfully. Although I highly recommend doing this at runlevel 3 since my gnome session locked itself during the upgrade process, and I wasn’t able to unlock it as the password dialog box disappeared. Otherwise things are looking great! As Arun said, performance seems to have improved quite a bit also. System seems very responsive, smoother and stable.

  18. Greg says:

I found zero issues doing a clan install, and the grub/grub2 issue with the grub menu updates is fixed. Other than excessive “are you sure?”s getting out of drakconf, I found nothing to complain about, works VERY well.

  19. Luthfi Emka says:

i’m having some problem on KDE Splashscreen. Before it loaded, the mageia images/background is not suitable to my laptop resolution. Is it bugs or just some driver issues?

  24. Pascal Drabik says:

    Hi,
    I am using KDE.

    1- First problem:
I choose English language and Belgium country, I do not succeed to use deadkey (for accentuated characters) in for instance LibreOffice, although this work in Firefox.
If I choose English language and United Kingdom country, it works well.
For information this was working very well with Mandriva

    2- Second problem:
If I plug a USB FAT-formatted key, the device notifier reacts. I can mount the key. I can work with it. Then when I unmount it via the device notifier, it disappears, which is really not convenient.
The same procedure using for instance an ext3 formatted USB key stays in the device notifier after having unmounted it.
For information this was working very well also in Mandriva.

Thanks for taking this into consideration.

Thanks for your report, but please do report such things in our bugzilla.

This way the developers don’t have to scan several sources of bug reports and it is always better for the reporter to report it properly then for someone else acting as a bridge between the reporter and the developers. E.g. in case the devs have questions for the reporter to answer.

    • Filip says:

My suggestion for #1 is to check if locales-xx and also libreoffice-langpack-xx are installed. Replace xx for proper letters for Belgium country of course.

I just want to say that I think this is an awesome beta. Installed with no issues recognized my wireless without adding anything. Updates install with no problems. And no problems with being slow or buggy at all. Loving it!!

  26. Everything just works! Have it installed on hard drive (since the first BETA version). No problems with upgrades or anything.

  27. VoodooDali says:

Seems to be working with no problems at all. Recognized my hardware without any tweaking. And my CPU is running slightly cooler than it was under Kubuntu. 🙂
