{"id":3132,"date":"2016-11-29T21:52:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T21:52:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mageia.org\/en\/?p=3132"},"modified":"2016-11-29T23:17:31","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T23:17:31","slug":"mageia-paris-open-source-summit-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mageia.org\/en\/2016\/11\/29\/mageia-paris-open-source-summit-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Mageia was at The Paris Open Source Summit 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"magicdomid2\"><span class=\"\">The 2016 POSS (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcesummit.paris\/\">Paris Open Source Summit<\/a><\/span><span class=\"\">, on Nov 16 &amp; 17) was a great <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">event <\/span><span class=\"\">for Mageia and its 3 representatives who ran the booth: Dtux<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z72zz68zpz76zz80zz87zz88z74z68z4z74zz68zbv0\">,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\">Magnux<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">77<\/span><span class=\"\"> and Lebarhon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"magicdomid3\"><span class=\"\">This year, <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">there were <\/span><span class=\"\">no lonely user<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">s<\/span><span class=\"\"> coming with laptop<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">s<\/span><span class=\"\"> to show us 3D display <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">issues <\/span><span class=\"\">or th<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">at their<\/span><span class=\"\"> sound <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">wasn&#8217;t <\/span><span class=\"\">working, it is<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\"> a test<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z72zz68zpz76zz80zz87zz88z74z68z4z74zz68zbv0\">a<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">ment to how good a release<\/span><span class=\"\"> Mageia 5 is. Instead, we met many people using Mageia for d<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">evelopment,<\/span><span class=\"\"> teaching or for their professional living. It <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">was nice to see how<\/span><span class=\"\"> well known <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">Mageia is <\/span><span class=\"\">as<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\"> a<\/span><span class=\"\"> serious and reliable<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\"> platform<\/span><span class=\"\">. <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">W<\/span><span class=\"\">e met the leader<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\"> of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alcasar.net\">Alcasar<\/a><\/span><span class=\"\">, a network access controller used by <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">many <\/span><span class=\"\">French administrations. Alcasar is running on thousands of computers, all of them under Mageia. These people often ask good questions, here are two examples, the first one from a developer and the second one from a teacher:<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"magicdomid4\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; On a computer without <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">a <\/span><span class=\"\">graphic interface, after an automatic update, how to know if a reboot is necessary? or at least, which packages need it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"magicdomid5\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; Mageia says Live releases are for testing. For <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">their<\/span><span class=\"\"> first Mageia <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">usage<\/span><span class=\"\">, many people prefer to use an old unused computer, the kind of computer with poor resources. Unfortunately, the Lives ISOs are shipped with KDE or GNOME, the desktop environments needing the most resources! This year we had the pleasure to discuss <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\">Mageia and Linux in general <\/span><span class=\"\">with ennael, baud, rtp, papoteur and piratu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"magicdomid8\"><span class=\"\">Cheers<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\"> Dtux<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z72zz68zpz76zz80zz87zz88z74z68z4z74zz68zbv0\">,<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2rz81zz77zz83zz85zdz89zz89zz122z2z84zz67z0z79zz88z\"> Magnux77 and Lebarhon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In answer to the questions asked, Mageia 6 will be released when ready, the next milestone release should be coming soon.<\/p>\n<p>The inclusion of a &#8220;light&#8221; Live ISO is something that has been discussed a few times, while there is nothing stopping this from happening, the additional testing required to test 3 different live environments has always proved critical.
