We <\/span><span class=\"author-a-7z79zz90zx6az122zz69zsz122zz86zfz70zgz75zq\">talked <\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\">at length about the reasons for this delay in a previous <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mageia.org\/en\/2017\/02\/20\/so-where-is-mageia-6\/\">blog post<\/a><\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\">. In a few words, it can be summarized as a succession of delays due to key contributors unavailability, infrastructure issues, upstream Plasma bugs that needed some time to mature, critical partitioning bugs in the installer that kept us hard at work for months \u2013 and overall our usual quality expectations and <\/span><span class=\"author-a-7z79zz90zx6az122zz69zsz122zz86zfz70zgz75zq\">our <\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\">wish to release a stable and well-tuned product, when it&#8217;s ready.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"magicdomid12\"><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\">But finally, here it is! We are <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">elated<\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\"> with how sta2 turned out and expect it to go smoothly towards the release candidate and the final version in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"magicdomid14\">Xfce live ISO images<\/h2>\n<p id=\"magicdomid18\"><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\">The big news for this release is that we are <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">offering <\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\">ISO<\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\">s<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\"> providing a live environment with Xfce<\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\"> as a replacement for our 32-bit GNOME and Plasma live ISOs<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\">.<\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\"> Therefore<\/span><span class=\"author-a-7z79zz90zx6az122zz69zsz122zz86zfz70zgz75zq\">,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"author-a-rz86zlz67zz88zz68zz66z6olz81zpn4z80zq\">we now provide four live ISO images: Plasma 64-bit, GNOME 64-bit, Xfce 32-bit and 64-bit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"magicdomid20\"><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">W<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\">e feel that the current lineup of ISOs covers everything that the previous one did, but also provides a lightweight alternative for older and less powerful systems, or for those that <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">prefer<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\"> a <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">slimmer<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\"> desktop<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\"> environment<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\">. <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">With<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\"> the new lineup, you can see that we still have great coverage for 32\/64<\/span> <span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\">bit systems, and the classical or net install will allow you to install the desktop of your choice<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">,<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\"> on the architecture of your choice<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">,<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z68z2z85zyaa2z89zixc5z81z5z73zq\"> with <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">your choice of installed packages<\/span><span The delay has allowed for far newer version<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">s<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\"> of both <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">Plasma 5<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\"> and <\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">KDE Applications,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\">which<\/span> <span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\">greatly improved the<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">ir quality<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">Other <\/span><span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\">major parts of the di<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\">stribution<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z80zz90zpz122zz72zz65z307vz80z1ivz87zz71z\"> have also been updated.<\/span><span class=\"author-a-2puz87zz69zrg0p9o0z85zf1z68z\"> You can see the full package list for the ISOs <a href=\"ftp:\/\/distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr\/pub\/linux\/Mageia\/iso\/cauldron\/Mageia-6-sta2-x86_64-DVD\/Mageia-6-sta2-x86_64-DVD.idx\">here<\/a>.
