Happy Mageia New Year!

To all Mageia people around the world, wherever you are, summer or winter, we hope 2013 is a great year for you – and we plan to make it a great year for Mageia!

Looking back…

2012 was a pretty good year for Mageia. We had our second release and we’re well on the way to Mageia 3; we can confirm that Mageia is doing well,  and we’re definitely a long term project.

We had lots of positive reviews (here’s another one), and we made it to the top 10 of the Distrowatch lists – Mageia is now seen as one of the main distributions on Distrowatch and ZDNet and TuxRadar – and we’ve had number 2 spot in Distrowatch page hit rankings all year! We’re right up there with distros that have been around much longer. That’s due to everyone in the Mageia community – thanks to everyone for your great work!

What’s happening now?

We’re in the middle of  development releases for Mageia 3; check the wiki  for updated release dates. We’re almost at Versions Freeze, and Beta 2 is due on January 18th – time to prepare for some more testing! Feedback about Beta 1 has been really good, but we can always use more testing.

And as we did for the last couple of years, we will have a stand at FOSDEM in Brussels, on the 2nd and 3rd of February. If you’ll be in Brussels then, FOSDEM is a great conference – come and talk to us, pick up a Mageia t-shirt and meet the folks you only see online!

Come join us!

How about making some new friends in the new year? Make 2013 your year for joining the community. Check out all the teams and see which one suits you best: we’ll welcome you with open arms!

Saying that Mageia is better than Ubuntu is like the understatement of the year. I have no idea why so many people have it in their heads that Linux == Ubuntu. I doubt its ancestor or its descendents (Mint et al) are any better.
