It’s that time again. Time for us to say farewell to an old friend.
It really doesn’t seem very long since we bid farewell to Mageia 1 but it is time for us to wave a fond goodbye to Mageia 2 as well.
Mageia 2 was released on May 22nd 2012 and so is due to reach its end-of-life on November 22nd 2013, which is this Friday! You can see the lifecycle of Mageia releases here. There will be no further updates issued for Mageia 2 after this date so if you haven’t yet upgraded to Mageia 3, it is now time.
Support for Mageia 3 will continue until at least November 19th 2014 and Mageia 4 is due to be released just before FOSDEM, at the start of February next year.
A huge thank you to all who contribute to make Mageia what it is today, and what it can become. People make Mageia, there are no employees, so if you reported a bug, fixed a bug, donated money, posted on the forum or mailing lists, helped with testing, documentation, translation, artwork, emails or even just mentioned Mageia to your friends, this includes you!
If you would like to get more involved, whatever your skill level or free time, there are lots of things you can do to help and you will be most welcome. It is very rewarding to know that you helped to make Mageia!
One of the best OS’s I’ve had the pleasure of using everything worked would have kept using it but my new motherboard needed the drivers in M3 for the on-board network card to work

It’s unfortunate, as Mageia 2 was the best version so far: Better supported than Mageia 1 and much faster than Mageia 3.
Good OS. Used it all the time before the third version.
Greetings from the Mageia Russian community!

it’s a pitty mageia 4 is not yet out…
is there a way to upgrade mageia 2 to cauldron?
Cauldron is fairly stable at the moment as we’re in version freeze and preparing for beta 2. You can find more info here https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Cauldron
If you do decide to use it I’d recommend joining the ‘dev’ mailing list.
I’m afraid I will have to keep this version until the software “ANKI” works on Mageia 3 (long time bug 8836) or 4, or 5… 🙂
